The Agave tequilana is very famous at breweries for extracting the juice from the crushed leaves and fermenting them into an alcoholic drink called, 'tequila'. In Mexico the plants grow into giant 6 foot tall specimens in fields where they are harvested, and this plant is cold hardy to grow in zone 9 and 10 in the landscape, or anywhere when containerized.
The drink, tequila, has made the Agave tequilana plant famous. The woody fibers of the Agave tequilana are also useful in making ropes. The Agave tequilana plant multiples readily to form colonies and at 4 ft. tall is very vigorous, and survives temperatures of 20*F.
