Mahan Pecan trees are a late season pecan producer that has a very soft shell. The Mahan requires cross pollination by adding additional trees. It is recommended that a grower should plant a Desirable Pecan tree along side. The paper-thin nutshell of the Mahan Pecan tree is a long rounded oval that can fill up a collection container fast. The famous Mahan pecan tree selection produces huge nuts in size, sometimes reaching 3 inches in length, and it shells out 40-50% kernel, depending on the weather conditions during the season. Another important feature of the Mahan Papershell Pecan tree is that the kernels shell out in perfect halves, but sometimes the limbs over-bear and break out of the tree leading to poorly developed kernels.
