The Sumner Pecan Tree or also erroneously sometimes called: the &bul; Western Schley&bul; Pecan is an early season producer that produces a soft papershell pecan. The Sumner pecan tree is very resistant to most diseases and late into the season is still covered with a canopy of deep green leaves; the nuts maturing late into the Fall. 55% kernel ratio. The Sumner pecan tree is excellent for growing in Florida and the deep South, especially Georgia and Alabama. The Sumner Pecan tree can grow into an enormous tall tree that can produce hundreds of pounds of pecan nuts each year around Thanksgiving and is hailed by most orchard growers as the most disease resistant pecan tree. The big drawback for growing the Sumner pecans is that their late maturing, sometimes as late as late November, prevents harvesting them early to make them available for the Thanksgiving and Christmas commercial markets.
