The Overcup Oak tree, Quercus lyrata, grows well in dry rocky soils and ridges, and provides good feed source for deer, turkey, quail and other small game, and it grows well in northern and southern states, including NJ, FL, TX, MS, IN, GA, and AL. The Overcup Oak Tree is one of the smallest Oak trees and only grows about 40 ft. tall with a trunk diameter of 2 ft. The leaves are leathery and shiny green in the Summer months. The Overcup Oak Tree is perfect for small yards because it only reaches around 40' in height, with prolific crop of acorns every 3-4 years. The leaves of the Overcup Oak Tree turn brown and drop off the tree in the Fall months.
