The ginger lily group is a very large group of tropical flowering plants, that has some rhizome members such as the fragrant white ginger, Hedyicium coronarium, the blue ginger lily, and the red pine cone (pinecone) ginger lily rhizome can all be grown out-of-doors as a cold hardy flowering plant in zone 8 through 11. Gingers lilies grow very well in containers, and most of the ginger lily bulbs are fragrant in all their parts, rhizomes, stems, leaves and flowers.
Most ginger lily plants require a little shading, and some ginger lilies require extreme low light intensity. Most gingers respond best to light, organic wet soils for maximum growth and flowering.
