The new growth that appears is a bronze color with large, dark-green leaves that turn orange and scarlet in color in the Fall. The Sourwood Tree is a slow grower with an upright oval crown that is 25-30 feet high and 20 feet wide. In the late Summer, drooping clusters of fragrant Lily-of-the-Valley-like white flowers add an interesting and unique look to the Sourwood Tree.
• The Sourwood Tree should be the shade tree of choice for anyone who seeks vibrant red fall leaves which rival even the maple. Sourwood trees bloom in late Summer and are known to retain flowers even after leaves change, adding beautiful highlights to the tree's scarlet crown. The colors of the leaves of the Sourwood Tree will explode on your landscape and are sure to catch the eye of your neighbors and friends. Sourwood flower clusters droop and contain nectar for bees later in the season, when other plants have stopped blooming.
