The Sycamore Tree provides good shade in the Summer and is highly recommended to be planted in cities, along streets. The tree grows into a huge shade tree that is very picturesque, rugged and is very tolerant of varying soil and growing conditions. When planted as an isolated specimen tree in a park or near your home, the Sycamore tree presents a regular, rounded crown. The Sycamore tree grows well in dry areas and can endure droughts easily, and surprisingly these trees are found growing near woods in wetlands. The Sycamore tree has colorful bark and is long lived, and it is often planted in rows along highways.
• Sycamore Trees are long-lived deciduous hardwoods which can grow up to 150' tall at maturity. The bark of the Sycamore ranges from shades of brown, green, grey and white. The bark exfoliates giving the Sycamore a look of peeling layers of paint or camouflage. Sycamore bark is unusually inelastic. When the smaller branches elongate, the bark cannot accommodate and sheds, giving smaller branches a perpetually new, clean, white bark.
• During the Winter the bark changes into a spectacular pure white color that extends from the bottom of the Sycamore tree to the top and are considered one of the fastest growing shade trees for landscape specimen trees. Rows of Sycamore trees are often planted along city streets, where the trees display an immunity to toxic automobile fumes. The Sycamore Tree can grow for hundreds of years if planted in the right conditions. In Italy, there have been reports of a Sycamore Tree that is over 1,200 years old! When considering livability Sycamore trees can live to an old age - some living to the ripe old age of one thousand years, The Sycamore tree can grow up to 130 feet tall. The white bark of the sycamore tree is beautiful during the winter when the old bark peels off, much like aspen trees and birch trees. Sycamore trees are easy to transplant and can be shipped to your front door when the trees are dormant.
• When used as a shade tree, the large over sized leaves will cool the roof of your home and lower your costly, outrageous electricity bill. Very few shade trees are as tolerant of variable soil types and weather extremes of minus 20 degrees Fahrenheit as the Sycamore tree. Sycamore trees are considered to be one of the fastest growing shade trees.
