The L'Orange Crinum cultivar was developed at Ty Ty Plantation in the 1980's by crossing the Crinum bulbispermum (Hannibal red clone) with Crinum yemense. This very wide crossing of genetic species produced a robust 'V' shaped, erect, leafy plant with vigorous tall straight flower stems topped by 8 to 12 trumpet shaped flowers with thick petal substance, deeply pink coloring in the throat with bright golden stamens stacked with pollen that reflect orange from the base of the center when freshly opening, leading to the name: L'Orange. This crinum plant reproduces numerous offset bulbs rapidly and is commercially favorable because it produces a reliable succession of flower stems throughout the growing season, and the abundant bulb producing capacity following their flamboyant floral display that begins in April.
