The Brandywine Purple Raspberry plant was developed at Cornell University in the New York Agricultural station at Geneva, N.Y. The attractive purple berry has an intense floral scent with a pleasant understated, tangy flavor, large, round and firm. The large size of the purple Brandywine raspberry makes it easy to pick, and the color of the raspberry develops late in the season as the berry begins ripening. The one-inch large berries of the Brandywine Purple Raspberry is tart but balanced with the proper sweetness in flavor. This purple raspberry is a parental hybrid of both red and black raspberry plants and tastes intensely sweet with faint floral aromas sometimes masked by premature harvesting.
